Character Entry for 's Merchant Design Contest!
This contest is for his Fantasy RPG-datesim Faulty Apprentice which is presently on Steam Greenlight.
Vote YES for Faulty Apprentice! Whoo-hoo! steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles…
"Come, child; behold the wonders I bring from the East! Silk, spices and more besides!"
Description:
Badriyah was once known as Golem 3; one of the alchemist's many experiments.
Deemed a failure, she left in a rage and headed east into the desert kingdoms.
There, she learned of art, music, dance and luxuries unheard of in her former life at Star's Reach Castle.
Despite her lack of brawn, Golem 3 possessed grace and poise, and soon found herself plenty of work in the souks and dance troupes of the desert kingdoms, travelling far across the land as her keen mind mastered art and trade.
Travel and her craft oft took its toll on her stitched flesh, but Golem 3 was no stranger to sewing; the colorful patches of fabric used in her repair oft added to her performances and drew the eye of her customers.
Years passed, and Golem 3, now named Badriyah, has returned, bringing wagons of silk, spices and supplies from her travels; *all* too eager to show her former mistress how successful she's become.
Design Notes:
When I heard about the contest hosted by dinmoney, whose vibrant, attractive, quirky female character designs caught my eye, I was overjoyed at the prospect. Despite concerns over the vague criteria of the character's profession (uncertain how to design a character that will fit the game's facilities) I narrowed down over a half dozen ideas into the two I thought would be the most interesting.
Whilst I noticed that Star's Reach Castle is clearly a Western fantasy setting, I thought a character with Eastern elements could add some flavor. Also, as a bloke who loves pandering artwork, my own gallery is oft full of scantily-clad women losing what little they were already wearing, and I'd be lying if I said the wardrobe malfunctions of some of dinmoney's gallery didnt catch my eye.
Now while those two thoughts may seem disjointed and completely unrelated, they nonetheless merged as one.
Scantily clad fantasy women.
Stray magic.
Accidents happen.
Someone'll need to fix this on a regular basis.
And so, a little googling later I chose the name Badriyah (meaning full moon; look at her pants if you still don't get it ), for our new merchant.
I'd had a lot of practice drawing dancing girl-style clothing of intricate tops and diaphonous silks, due to design work for my webcomic project, Par'Dis : binkibonsai.deviantart.com/art… and despite having submitted two entries for this contest, I admit this one is definitely my preferred choice of the two.
Also, I like flesh golems.
